Being a hard-core last-minute blogger, I don't have much this morning. I slept overnight, but by 4:00 a.m. (10 p.m. in New York) we were both awake and nervous. So we got up and put CNN on the television.
This is a food blog — mostly and especially recently — and this was
our lunch yesterday. Walt made it. Can you tell what it is?

I'm glad we did, because we were watching when CNN "called" the election. We didn't miss the moment. This is not a political blog, and I don't want to argue politics with anybody, but I think you know were I stand on these questions. I will say: what a relief! For so many reasons...
I'm with you on the election! Maybe I can get a decent night's sleep now!
ReplyDeleteWhew! We're happy.
ReplyDeleteWe are very happy too, and we are not even American!
ReplyDeleteSharing your feelings of relief here too! Martine
ReplyDeleteGood on Pennsylvania! Bad on North Carolina...
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm from PA! Also relieved.
ReplyDeleteNow, that's a meat pie of some kind. I see onion, but I'm not sure about the meat. Looks good, whatever it is.
The main ingredient in the the pie was not meat...
ReplyDeleteWas it humble pie? :))
ReplyDeleteIt looks good, so I can't wait to hear what it is.
I decided to sleep on the couch until they announced the winner, but as soon as I went out to the living room and turned on the couch, I saw that they had just announced that President Obama would remain President Obama. It must have been around the time you two saw it :))
its a pork pie?
ReplyDeleteCan I just say, as an English woman who doesn't understand much about American politics, I am so relieved that I don't have to face MR's "used car sales mans" smirk every time I turn on the evening news.
ReplyDeleteWe did it!
ReplyDeleteI'm from Ohio and very proud of my home state!
ReplyDeleteThe pie looked like kale, onion, potato and ham.......But I'm not sure.....I am sure that it looks delicious.
It's morning in America! In more ways than one. I got to bed at a normal hour last night with the result pretty much certain, and managed to sleep w/o getting up to confirm it. Thank you everyone, especially those in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy VA finally went blue, but am disappointed in NC too Ken......we'll be there next election so that'll be 2 more democrat voters in that state!
ReplyDeleteBonjour
ReplyDeleteWent to bed at 2;30 this morning - wanted to see how VA went after the humming about Ohio after the networks called the election.
Happy to see how some of the pundits were wrong , especially the talking heads on sunday morning. Happy to see that the President has another 4 yrs ( speaking as a neighbouring Canadian)
As far as the pie is concerned I think it is chard [bettes or blettes].
ReplyDeleteI think the same as CHM on the pie... main ingredient looks like chard, possibly with potato, onion and chopped ham [or leftover morteau or similar sossij]!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Gaynor and The Beaver about the Election. Besides... as someone who uses his name in reverse for the internet... I couldn't support someone who cant spell Tim [Yenmor Ttim] and Yes, Alfiemag... that smile!!
The main ingredient in the tourte or pie is chard (blettes), along with cooked rice, a little onion (some of the pieces that might look like onion are chard ribs), cheese (Comté and Parmesan), and some leftover (from the sauerkraut) pork, sausage, and smoked chicken just for flavor.
ReplyDeleteAs CHM said, "you all did it!" Good. Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Virginia... it's a great result. Not to mention the marriage initiatives in Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, and Washington State. This turned out to be a great and significant election.
Thanks for all the comments from the U.S., Canada, France, and the UK. (I also got private comments from Australia.)
I am also relieved and pleased with the election result. I have no idea why my gut feeling makes me feel that, but in any case I know it mattered to you guys.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance I thought you had made a Cornish pasty. It's similar anyway - it looks delicious - comfort food at its finest.
I was very anxious all day yesterday but happy to breathe a big sigh of relief last night.
ReplyDeleteRelief was pretty much what we felt at the outcome!!! Not to mention so glad the damned thing is finally over.
ReplyDeleteStarman, I agree with all you say.
ReplyDeleteBettyAnn, nice to hear from you.
Jean, isn't a pasty filled mostly with meat? In this thing we made, meat was an after-thought. And yes, the election mattered. So good.
Maine finally did the right thing on marriage equality after several tries. And it looks like we will be giving the Maine Senate and House back to the democrats. Only one left is tea party Governor Paul LePage.
ReplyDeleteI was so tired yesterday that I missed seeing your tasty pasty-like pie.
ReplyDeleteThe results of this election are more satisfying than the one in 2008 for me. Our country is in forward mode on so many issues and the electorate refused to believe lies this time.
Perfect description : used car salesman smile!!! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nailbiter of an election, but at least this time there was a clear winner and no leftover counting of chads! TERRIFIC NEWS - even if yesterday Nov 7 the stock market tanked.
I first thought you had made a pasty, too - it looks yummy - whatever you call it.
Yes relieved and happy...and very pleased with the streaming on the computer...how bout that...!!! I stayed up til midnight for it and you were both up at 4 am!!!
