Since Christmas we've had more bad weather days like the ones were having this weekend than not. Cold rain is getting me down again. And we still have February and March to get through. The little red dot on the map above is approximately where Saint-Aignan is, and the black dot just to the left is the city of Tours. Paris is pretty much due north, in the rain belt. This is the coldest, wettest winter we've had in years. Meanwhile, the eastern half of the U.S. is experiencing frozen precipitation of all sorts, and Arctic-like temperatures. Florida is having its coldest winter in decades. Coastal North Carolina, which gets snow about once a decade that melts away in less than 24 hours, is expecting icy weather for the next three or four days. The capital of Russia, Moscow, has had more snow this winter than in any year out of the last 200.
What has happened to global warming?
I'm always glad to get January and February out of the way as March is the start of spring in my book!
ReplyDeleteThat was me……
DeleteI know that weather map is discouraging, but the colors are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny!
DeleteI haven't left the house here in western NC (Saluda) for about 10 days now & probably won't get out for several more. We had horrid ice which never melted & our driveway is a solid sheet and now today snow...the road was never plowed...and temps will not get above freezing (very unusual) for a few days.....power holding so far but we are hoping for a propane delivery next week to keep the back up for heat pump going...if the big truck can get up the steep hill.......
ReplyDeleteBon courage, Melinda. In past years, Walt would build fires in our wood-burning stove, but we can't do that now. Neither one of us is capable of bringing the firewood up to the living room. So we are relying on our oil-fired boiler for heat.
DeleteHave you thought of a trolley for stairs... or a shopping trolley of similar design... has theree smaller wheels on each side which act like a big wheel and turn as you go up stairs... a shopping trolley will hold a few logs less, but at our ages, a few trips up and down stairs is easier and good exercise!!
DeleteI invested in a vertical, hydraulic log splitter to make the wood more manageable too... and Walt will find it fun to use... takes no effort to split timber!!
But the trolley is the way to go... even a small fire cheers body and soul!!
Another thought about logs- could you hire someone to bring the logs to your deck once a week?

ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is about having more extremes isn't it? Here in CA they say we will break temperature records the next couple days as we hit the mid 80s. And it's humid.
ReplyDeleteDiogenes, that's the way I've understood it (Global Warming meaning extremes in both directions).
ReplyDeleteMelinda, I've seen your posts about stuck in that frozen spot for so long... terrible for you!
Ken, thanks for the info on the air fryer time/temp for your veggies :)
We have had hardly any snow or rain in the Okanagan Valley BC this winter and we are dreading the coming spring and summer. Without a decent snowpack in the mountains or sufficient rain, the dryness will lead to more wildfires started by either dry lightning or arsonists. We would gladly accept your snow or rain and give you some relief. C.
ReplyDeleteYou might use the term, Climate Change instead of what our dear leader uses because he doesn't believe in it and always says it is a hoax and now, it is the Green Scam. Yes, extremes because of all the carbon in the air.
ReplyDeleteHope your family faired okay in their cold weather, Ken. We're up to 50 today and even mid 60's in the Cascade Mountains as skiers were wishing for the opposite.
Climate Change is still here, but the Global Warming part is causing extreme fluctuations in weather patterns that are predicted to get worse!!
ReplyDeleteSwimming trunks one week, winter woolies and raincoats the next!!
Gracious, Ken, I didn't realize that Walt was having difficulties that kept you two from bringing in firewood! He hasn't mentioned much on his blog.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a hydraulic log splitter, too... he hasn't used it in a few years, but it worked well, and as Diogenes says, it is not hard to use. :)
