Finally, here were our desserts at the Relais d'Artémis, near Chambord. The menu also featured a cheese course made up of local goat cheeses, including a smoked fromage de chèvre that was especially good.
An assortment of goat cheeses from the Loire Valley, with lightly dressed lettuce leaves
Le nougat glacé du pâtissier au miel et noix de pécan, coulis de fruits rouges
(The pastry chef's frozen nougat with honey and pecans, and a coulis of red berries)
Déclinaison autour de la fraise de Maslives et son sorbet liqueur de Chambord
(Variations on a strawberry theme with Chambord liqueur sorbet)
Here is the menu, showing just the dishes we ordered:

ReplyDeleteMy husband would have loved this ... he was an aficionado of "stinky" cheese and loved tasting them all. I am more of a dessert girl.
ReplyDeleteIMO, goat cheeses -- at least the Loire Valley cheeses -- are not stinky. They're very mild. That said, I do like the so-called "stinky" cheeses. They are especially good with a nice wine.
DeleteLoire Valley goat cheeses are among my very favorite cheeses. You used to be able to get a modest selection of them in the northeast US, but now it seems to be almost impossible. And they go so well with Loire Sauvignon Blanc. In fact, in my opinion that's about the only thing that Sauvignon Blanc goes well with.
DeleteThe finish to your meal just reinforces my desire to revisit the area.
ReplyDeleteThe Relais d'Artémis, where we've been enjoying the food for years, seems to get better and better.

DeleteWow wow wow!
ReplyDeleteThe goat cheese and salade plate looks heavenly. I'm sure you are enjoying the euro-dollar exchange rate as well these days. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the interesting menu.
The first picture looks like culinary heaven. The rest of the menu sounds rather special, too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Wow.
