Above are two photos of our neighbors' huge yard. They live in Blois (25 miles north) and only come down here a few times a year — less than once a month. Usually, they don't stay for more than a week each time, and often less. We have the keys to their house and we are free to walk our dog around their property when they're not here. They trust us to keep an eye on their place for them.

The neighbors have six acres of land, if I'm not mistaken. Most of it is woods. Less than a third of it has to be mowed. Our yard, in comparison, is fairly small at only about half an acre. Living here is like living next door to a big private park. The woman who owns the house is nearly 90 years old and she has five children. It will be interesting to see what they do with the house after she passes away. And what they do with the house their mother lives in up in Blois.
It's certainly great to have all of that green area surrounding your house.
ReplyDeleteThat must be a lot of expense for them to have to keep up the lawn for that house.
I hope your part of St. Louis was not in the path of all the tornado activity of the past day or two. As for the neighbors' yard, they use a full-size riding mower and spend a lot of time in spring, summer, and fall riding around on it. For now, it's the owner's eldest daughter and her husband who take care of the place. Her husband passed away last year at age 94.
DeleteI had no idea the property had six acres. It must stretch out to the back. Each child could have a house there.
ReplyDeleteIt does stretch out to the back, and that part of the property is very steep and densely wooded. It runs down into a deep ravine and its southern boundary is a stream that flows into the Cher river.
DeleteWhat a great peaceful area to walk in!
ReplyDeleteThis time of year, when there's a lot of activity out in the vineyard, we don't walk out there every day. There are too many people, cars, vans, trucks, and tractors out there. I usually don't keep Tasha on a leash for those walks.
