Moving and improving

Moving plants around, and trying to give them better growing conditions, improving them. Some plants thrive when neglected — the hens and chicks in their small pot above spent the whole winter outside and loved it. The big conifer in the photo above right had been attacked by ivy and other climbing vines, until I cut them off at the bottom a few weeks ago. I noticed yesterday that all the vines up higher in the tree have turned brown and shriveled up. I was hoping that would happen that way.

Another thing I did a few weeks ago was dig up some bellflower roots and stems and plant them in a pot in the greenhouse. Here's how they look now. I'm going to hang the pot on the railing up on our terrace.

Here's a picture of some of the plants that were in our downstairs front porch. They were in bad shape. I moved them all outdoors, putting them under the carport to protect them from too much sun. There they are on the right. I guess I'm going to have to throw a lot of the donkey tails into the compost pile out in the back yard.

  1. And the cycle begins again. It’s raining here, for the first time in four months!

  3. Wonder if those donkey tails will root if you put them in another pot?

    1. Yes, they will root. They are air plants and require very little water. I will keep some growing.
