A leak and a lunch
The day before yesterday it rained steadily from about 9 a.m. until nearly 6 p.m. The downspout on one corner of our house, near the front door, is evidently stopped up. The gutter at that corner was overflowing as I've never seen it do before. Now we have to find out how to fix it, or find someone who will come fix it for us. It's supposed to rain again today. Sigh...
Yesterday's lunch was not complicated or fancy. We had a hamburger, some leftover asparagus spears, and some diced potatoes cooked in the air fryer. I also had some leftover cheese sauce (sauce mornay) in the fridge, so we heated that up and put some of it on the burger and on the asparagus. Satisfying...

Your downspout is full of leaves.... easiest way to clear it is get a garden cane and disturb it at the top where it is always worst.... after it is cleared, ball up some chicken netting and fix it in the downspout up there....
ReplyDeleteYou can get preformed plastic or wire equivalents.... and they aren't expensive. Best to get all cleaned out by a man with a pressure washer and fit the guards to all the down pipes.... we've got 1" chicken mesh ones I made for ours.
DeleteI figured the leaf part out. The gutter is far too high above ground level for either of us to be tempted to climb a ladder and risk falling. I have a roofer in Blois who I need to call. First we are going to try pouring a liquid leaf-dissolver product called Ouragan into the downspout. We can do that because the gutter at roof level is accessible from an attic window, no ladder needed. It worked for us once before. The other three downspouts at the corners of the house are not easily accessible.
DeleteHave you attempted to see if the clog is at the bottom angle? Sometimes that is where the leaves/bark/debris collect as well. Good luck. Someone who is capable on a tall ladder should be able to do the upper area. Several people I know have that done every fall after all the leaves etc. have come down, of course!
DeleteI need to try mornay on my burgers. You mastered the airfryer quickly.
ReplyDeleteI like a good grilled burger!
