Life seen through a back window. That's our life right now. Each of us bundles up and goes out every day for a walk with the dog (Tasha) but not for too much else besides groceries. Over the past few weeks, sometimes we see the sun rise, but mostly we don't (despite the fact that I get up at five a.m. every morning. Even when we see the sun rise, often a dense fog forms and blocks it out an hour or two later. Temperatures hover around the freezing point. Sometimes we get freezing fog.
My trip to La Gourmandière was therapeutic. I was worried about black ice (du verglas in French) on the roads, but I didn't notice any. The woman who was on duty at the winery wished me a happy new year and a lot more sunshine this year than we had last year. She said morale is low out here in the countryside because skies are too often gray. I've been known to say that most of the color in our environment at this time of year is in the kitchen. Today I'm making choucroute garnie, sauerkraut with beautiful smoked meats. I'll take pictures.
So glad you got out and talked to a kindred spirit. Maybe AI is running blogger now, lol.
ReplyDeleteAt least the frosty picture is kind of cool, with the frosted tips of everything... but, fog fog fog fog fog, relentlessly.... brings everyone down when that's about all that we are seeing outside. We need sun to fully wake up, I find.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to your colorful choucroute garnie dish!
we also need some sun to melt the freakin ice which resulted from the 2-3 inch snowfall earlier in the week..
ReplyDeleteIn France there is always the food and wine to bring a little funshine into the day.
ReplyDeleteMakes us all appreciate more the sunny Spring days to come. Meanwhile, vegetable seed plans, or plants for the kitchen garden to be considered. Sow your tomato seeds etc., indoors, and get a head start! Pats🚜
ReplyDeleteWell, soon Spring will be sprung and there will be daffodils and primula coming up. You could always take a mini vacation to the south...that might be a nice break.
ReplyDeleteExactly what I was thinking, Diogenes! Why not take a week and Tasha, you and Walt head South down to Provence and Sunshine? Me - I don't have that luxury. Heading south to fires in LA? Not for me.
DeleteUh oh... I just checked the forecast for Provence next week: Yes, there will be a sunny day every so often, and yes - at least several days of temps in the 50's (F) but rain is also forecast along with cloudy days there, as well. I take back my suggestion. Time to liven up our lives with your spectacular creative and delicious-looking dishes, Ken! Me - I will try to keep playing pickleball outside (today at 2 when the temperature will be near 40!) Still cloudy but at least I will be with my friends and be exercising!
