Low pressure

Have I told you yet that I suffered another fall last week? It was Thursday afternoon at about 6 p.m. and it was a bad fall, but I survived it. Walt and I were upstairs in the loft. He headed down the stairs to return to our living/dining room, which is on the house's main level. I was a few steps  behind him When suddenly I realized that I was falling. I hadn't tripped on anything, and I was hanging on to the stair rail. I heard myself yell: Oh no, not again! I fell down about a dozen stairs and wasn't able to get up again. Luckily Walt was there and I hadn't knocked him down. He helped me get up off the stairs.

The next day I called the nurse who had helped me recover from the bad fall I suffered back in late August. She came over and bandaged my two new arm wounds. She or one of her colleagues has been over every morning for a week now to change the bandages. The danger is that one of the wounds might get infected. That would be bad.

I also hurt my right shoulder, but it's gradually getting better. I can now stand up from a sofa, bed, or chair without assistance from Walt.

I went to see my GP doctor day before yesterday. He examined me and we talked for about half an hour. He took my blood pressure and it came in at 12 over 6, which would seem to be a very good result. (120 over 60 in American terms.)

After he measured my blood pressure we talked some more about the details of my fall. He asked me if I thought I had tripped on something. I said no. Did you experience some king of malaise? he asked. I said I really didn't know what caused me to fall.

He said he had a suspicion that my blood pressure is too low. A sudden drop in blood pressure could have been the cause. I told them the dizzy spells had been especially frequent for the past week or two. He said wanted to change my prescription for blood-pressure medicine that I'd been taking to see if that was the cause.

I started the new blood-pressure medicine this morning. I would have started it yesterday but had forgotten to take the older pills out of my pill box and put the new ones in. So I had to wait until this morning to test the the new medicine. I just have to be more and more careful on stairs. I hope he has correctly identified the cause behind my falls. Walt said the other day that he was afraid I was dead after this last fall, but I wasn't...
