Pas de nouvelles, bonnes nouvelles

No news is good news. I'm in that mode. We're having beautiful, cool mornings right now, so we are  taking advantage of them by doing some yard work (Walt) and some cooking (Ken),which is mostly salads and sandwiches to eat in the afternoon. Plus some ice cream.

Have you heard about the riots in Paris when the LIDL grocery store chain announced it had ordered thousands of portable AC units and electric fans from China and was selling them at a discount. The LIDL stores were overwhelmed by big crowds of bargain-chasers. The latest twist this story takes in that people were buying air-conditioners and  electric fans at deep discounts and promptly listing them on on-line sales sites (the best known of which is called Le Bon Coin) at three or four times what they had paid for them at LIDL.

  2. I had missed the riot reports. I can imagine a lot of new AC units in Europe. Stay well.

  3. I saw one of those units in a shop in Paris. It was working well and not large. I hope your summer's weather trends toward normal from now on.

    1. It's almost cold here this morning but we're still expecting a hight of about 90 this evening. Strange weather. Wond what August will bring.

  4. I had not heard of this - I googled and saw some videos. It was the equivalent of the Black Friday rush at a Walmart after Thanksgiving. Just crazy. Thanks for telling us I never would have heard otherwise!

    1. Hi D., we have a LIDL supermarket in Saint-Aignan but I don't know if it participated in the sale of AC and fans. Our weather has improved but we still have 2 or 3 100 degree days to live through.

    2. Glad things are cooler Ken. The US east coast is having a heat wave now as I'm sure you've seen.
