I haven't been back to Paris since 2019. Or to the U.S. The pictures here are some that I took in 2016, coincidentally on July 9 that year. It was one of the last times that I saw my friend Charles-Henry (CHM).
I was looking at old photos this morning and came across these. We were walking through an outdoor market near his apartment, not far from the Eiffel Tower.
I don't know about you, but I can almost smell the ocean when I look at the photos below of fish that were for sale that day in Paris, nearly a decade ago. And I grew up just a few blocks from the fish markets in my home town on the North Carolina coast. I did a lot of fishing, crabbing, and clamming back then, and enjoyed eating fresh seafood. I also like the color of the shrimp on the right, which were sold cooked.
I'm homesick for both N.C. and Paris. Maybe I'll get to go back to both one day.
pretty hot in NC right now. We are running the ac more than usual. I miss all the seafood I grew up eating in Nola. Our Harris Teeter store just reopened after Helene which is where I prefer to get seafood these days (but the Fresh Market won't open until Dec. evidently)
ReplyDeleteMarket scenes are always interesting to see.
ReplyDeleteParis is not hard to get to for you, so near and yet so far.
ReplyDeleteOh the wonderful color of those shrimp! We drove out I-10 last week, past the Salton Sea in the distance, and thought of your dear friend chm!
ReplyDeleteI really regret that we didn't get to travel to Chartres and Paris together in 2021. Covid was still lingering and I didn't think ahead to ask you about coming along with us. I hope you get to Paris asap.
ReplyDeleteI got a little behind in reading your blog due to houseguests and such and have now caught up with the beautiful pictures and culinary inspiration. We are experiencing less heat than you and more light rain in the Okanagan Valley BC. Not normal for us but not complaining. We prefer the low to mid 20s Celsius (70s F) and cooling breezes as opposed to 40-48°C (118°F) which usually triggers extreme dryness and accompanying wildfires. We can actually cook these days if we run the A/C for a little bit. Looking forward to a little light drizzle late morning here. C.
