Mont-St-Michel — salt marshes or salt meadows?

The Mont-Saint-Michel is something you (or I) just can't stop taking pictures of. I wonder how many I've taken on my 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 trips to the place. Here are some more. I took all of them in 2006. You can enlarge them by tapping or clicking on them. The third photo below shows the mud flats and salt marshes (salt meadows) that surround the Mont, as did some of the photos I posted yesterday. Sheep graze on the marsh land. The meat from the lambs is reputed to be some of the best lamb in France.

  1. The lamb is pre-salted. I have made that drive a couple of times, it is amazing.

  2. I first saw MSM as a poster in high school. I went on a bus tour from Paris in '66, then in '69, '88, '09? and '23. The entrance part changed but the inside part is mostly the same. A sight to see and share with friends.

  4. Yes Evelyn, I too was mesmerized by the Mont Ste. Michel poster in my french classroom in Junior H.S.! I just knew as soon as I got to Europe that was a must-see on my itinerary! And, it did not disappoint! We were there before the bridge, so I was acutely aware of the tides so we didn't get caught on the isle! It was 1992 and even though there were tourists, not even close to the ones I've seen on Travels in Europe videos by Rick Steves!

  5. I had to look up my cost for car insurance - $583/year for my 17 year-old Honda. My second car is on comprehensive only right now. I live in a metropolitan area, not rural and yes, our rates went up last year here in Oregon as well as most of the USA. The excuse I was given by my representative was that there were more uninsured drivers and more accidents. I am in the category of driving less than 7500 miles/year yet I calculate I drive less than half that much.
