My morning view

This is what I'm looking at these days as I sit in the living room in the early morning hours — as I'm working on my laptop, putting together a blog post. It's dark outside.

On the right is a closer view of the tree. Today, several things are on the schedule. We're taking the Citroën in for it's biannual inspection. Then we're going to the supermarket to do some holiday shopping. Not only do we have to think about foods for our Christmas Eve and Christmas dinners, but Walt's birthday is on Friday, so we need to get foods for a birthday dinner as well. This ranks as a busy day in our Saint-Aignan lives.

  1. Oh, I think I see a little cardinal on there! :)
    Enjoy the shopping!

  2. The Citroën passed inspection! It's 11 years old, but we've only put 8,500 miles on it since we bought it 4 years ago! It was rainy and chilly this morning, but we had a good shopping outing at SuperU.

    1. Oh, and the cardinal. State bird of N.C. (among other states).

  3. The winter solstice is on Friday. Then the days will start lengthening at both ends so that before long you won't have to work in the dark when putting the blog together. Roderick

    1. I know. The darkest days are just about over. Tomorrow is supposed to particularly rainy, windy, and dreary. Somehow appropriate for Dec. 21.

  5. Love the tree, it's very old-school traditional in a great way. The star on top is perfect. Also like the "bon vin" pillow.

    1. That pillow was a gift from a friend in Albany NY. On the other, plain side, she had affixed a photo of our departed dog Callie that she got off one of our blogs and printed. Unfortunately that photo has faded, so we turned the pillow around to display Bon Vin. I don't think we've had that star at the top of the tree for very long, but many of the other ornaments go back decades, to the early '80s even. A lot of them have sentimental value and bring back good memories.

  6. A beautiful tree! Ohio is another state with the cardinal as state bird. I've loved them since I was very young. sitting with my grandparents on their back porch watching the birds at the feeder. Congratulations on your car passing the test.

    1. That means both our cars, one 18 years old and the other 11 years old, have passed inspection for another two years. It's always a relief. Also, seeing a cardinal up close is a memorable experience. A friend in N.C. who has now passed on had a feeder outside her kitchen window. We could sit at the kitchen table and watch the cardinals. In California, another friend who has now passed on had a hummingbird feeder outside her living room window. Seeing hummingbirds up close is also cool.

    1. Merry Christmas and an early happy new year to you, Terry. I don't know yet how this is going to play out, but I might see you in 2019.

  8. That's a very pretty tree. Do I also see a small canoe on it?

  9. I would love to see hummingbirds outside my window but they don't occur here in Australia...however, we have a small feeder for finches outside our living room window and it is so lovely to see them come and help themselves. I feel as though I'm giving back for the habitat taken from them by us humans! Wishing you and Walt a lovely Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019. :o) and keep those recipes coming!
