Les plages de la Madeleine et du Vieil à Noirmoutier

These are photos that I took on the northeast shore of the Île de Noirmoutier, in the town of Noirmoutier-en-l'Île. This is the bay side of the island, looking out over the Baie de Bourgneuf — Bourgneuf is a town on the mainland. I was surprised at how rocky this coast is.

When Atlantic storms approach the coast, or when flood tides occur, well... you can see why there are such tall and solid seawalls to keep the water, as it were, at bay. I would like to go back to Noirmoutier one day to see what it looks like at high tide.

We found a place to park the car just south of the marker on the map above for the Plage de la Madeleine (plage means beach). There is a strand of sand but it was the rocks that impressed me. We walked east along the beach over to the road where the restaurant known as Le Chat Perché is located. Then we walked along the road over to the Plage du Vieil (vieil is a form of the word vieux, meaning "old.")

I mentioned the smell of the seaweed in an earlier post. It smelled really good to me — the air "smells like low tide" is what we would say on the North Carolina coast. On the right in the photo above, you can see three boys walking on the rocks, which are covered in seaweed. I bet it was pretty slippery.

Our Shetland sheepdog Natasha had never been to the beach before. She was obviously really excited by the experience. But she stayed close to us and pretty much ignored the other people who were out on the beach and rocks. The weather here in Saint-Aignan has turned cold — it's below freezing this morning — and it's nice to remember warm sunny days like the one you see in these photos. Here's a link to a map of all the Noirmoutier beaches.

    2. Joyeusetés de l'électronique! The link works or doesn't work depending on the browser I use! It doesn't work with Puffin, but does with Chrome! Wny is that? I don't have a clue.

Now, if I try with Safari, here is the message I get:

"Safari cannot open the page because it cannot establish a secure connection to the server."

      What's wrong with Google?

    4. If Chrome, which is Google's browser can open the link, I'd ask "what's wrong with the Puffin and Safari browsers?" I just tried it with the Firefox and Opera browsers on my Windows laptop, and had no problems. However, Safari for Windows on the same machine won't open it. Safari has always been difficult when it comes to Blogger blogs. Ginny went to see the Safari team at Apple to try to find out why, but I don't think she was successful. She uses Safari on a Mac or iPad, I'm sure, since she's an Apple employee.

    5. The link opens up really fast on all three of the browsers I have on my Android tablet: Firefox, Opera, and Chrome.

    6. If you're interested, the link works on my Mac desktop, on Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

Tasha is such a delight. I'm so glad that she enjoyed this vacation with you.

    7. Bonjour CHM, I tried that link in my post with Safari for Windows again. I looked at the help screen that is available where the Safari error message displays. The help text suggested doing a Safari reset, which is an option on the browser's Action menu — the little gear symbol at the top right-hand corner of the browser window. It worked. Now Safari loads the site with the map of Noirmoutier's beaches with no difficulty.

    8. Amazing. I have to take back what I just wrote. Now Safari still won't load that page. Safari is flaky, that's all. All my other browsers load https://www.plages.tv/gallery/cms/images/plan-plages-ile-noirmoutier.jpg with no problems.

  2. I read your blog in Chrome because Safari won't let me comment. I'm enjoying your visit to Noirmoutier.

    1. Must be some kind of stand-off between Apple and Google (which owns Blogger). I think Safari is very security-heavy, which is not really a bad thing, but it makes the browser very sensitive to anything that's not seen as completely standard and innocent.

  3. I'm using Safari on Windows to leave this comment...

  4. Even though I am an all Mac man, I stopped using Safari, on my laptops and tablets, a long time ago, because it was reloading all the time!

I think it is to your suggestion that I now use Puffin on my tablets. I use Firefox on my laptops.

Even though I use Google all the time, I didn't like their hijacking my Disqus anonymous ID and replace it by my Google ID. To post comments with Disqus, I have to go through my anonymous Facebook ID to stay anonymous! That's a pain I owe to Google...

In addition, my Ipads refuse to remember my
IDs and passwords. So, each time I want to post a comment, I have to enter my ID and password!

To post this comment (non anymously), I have to go through Chrome. Who said Faire et défaire, c'est travailler?

  5. I haven't used the Puffin browser in years. I seem to remember that it promised interesting features, but if they were ever implemented, I had moved on by then. I use Firefox almost exclusively on my Windows PCs and my Android tablets.
