A "perched" village is one built at the top and/or down the sides of a steep hill or promontory. One of the most famous villages of this type in France is the one called Rocamadour, built on a site about an hour's drive on winding, narrow roads southeast of the Château Montfort, which posted about a few days ago.

That last picture is very impressive, Ken! Thanks ;-)!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo of one of my favorite sites to see in France. I also love the way it's name rolls off one's lips.
ReplyDeleteWhat a place! I briefly visited it waaaaaay long ago, the year that I stayed in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie... March of 1986, now that I think of it :)
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say how much I am enjoying the You Tube show Chateau Poseidon that you wrote about in your Jan 16 post. It is so interesting and amazing how they are restoring the chateau.
ReplyDeleteIt is great that they are restoring this beautiful chateau.

Beautiful...though I'd rather live on the flat lower portion. Hope I make it there one day.
ReplyDeleteHaven't gotten there - yet! I thought maybe you were going to show us Gordes (another perched city - in the Luberon). I agree with Evelyn about pronouncing Rocamadour! Just amusing to say it!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t there a famous Vierge Noire at one of the churches there?
