From upriver, that means. The the first town upriver from Saint-Aignan is Selles-sur-Cher (famous for goat cheese).
The next town downriver is Montrichard. The river is the Cher. There's a town every 10 miles along the Cher, and there are a lot of villages all along the way.

Here's a closer view of Saint-Aignan (pop. 3,000 or so). We're having a heat wave, with a high temperature today of 38ºC. Tomorrow a degree hotter, and Wednesday another degree hotter. Thirty-eight Celsius is 100ºF.
I appreciate that you have that temperature conversions box in your side bar :) Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteNice photos looking upriver.
ReplyDeleteSo far this year, we have escaped the oppressive heat that we usually experience in the Okanagan Valley BC. It appears that the weather gods are focusing on other parts of the world and giving us lots of rain (no complaints here). Although many temperature records have been broken this year, we hope not to see another heat dome like the one during COVID restrictions in 2021. It killed 619 BC residents mainly due to a lack of air conditioning. I remember June 28, 2021 as the worst day, our friends were moving house, and it was 48°C.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that was horrible. It sounds like it was similar to the heat wave we experienced in 2003, when we first arrived in Saint-Aignan. So many died...
DeleteWe hope you won't experience la canicule that wwas so deadly of years past.
ReplyDeleteOur high temp yesterday was just above 36C. That's 96 or 97 F. We spent part of the day yesterday researching and trying to figure out how we could get air conditioning installed in this house. It wouldn't be easy. Maybe we'll just have to sell and move to Brittany or Normandy, where winds off the Atlantic and the Channel keep things cool. We were spared damage from last week's storms but we face the prospect of more damaging winds, lightning, and flooding starting Thursday, when the heat breaks. I hope you two are doing well.
DeleteStay cool Ken! Ductless A/C is your friend. They are pretty remarkable now.
