La Sauldre à Romo

The river that runs through the town of Romorantin-Lanthenay is la Sauldre. Actually, there are several branches of the Sauldre running through Romo. On the day I took these photos, the river level was pretty high and a lot of muddy water was flowing through the town. Some sources hint that Leonardo de Vinci, in France during the Renaissance at the invitation of king François 1er, might have designed the waterworks you see in these photos at the time when the king was planning to build a new royal city and château at Romo. That plan fell through when Leonardo died in 1519. King François had Chambord built instead.

    1. I have a good memory of going to the market hall in Romo with you and Esta two years ago. We had that funny experience in the restaurant across the street at lunchtime, but it all worked out and the food was good.

  2. The lunch was so good and Esta really liked the market. I will always remember that last trip fondly- it may have been my last trip to France. It went so well despite the pandemic problems. Traveling is so good for the soul.
