According to the map, there is Radio Island and to a lesser extent Pivers Island between Beaufort and Morehead City. Which city do they belong to? Could you see Beaufort from Morehead City and vice-versa across the inlet?
Bonjour CHM, Radio Island is part of Morehead City, and Pivers Island is part of Beaufort. The Duke University Marine Laboratory is on Piver's Island. You can't see Beaufort from Morehead City or vice-versa, but you can see Beaufort across the inlet when you're in the Fort Macon State Park on the eastern tip of Bogue banks. Remember that the land is very flat on the NC coast, except for the occasional sand dune.
