I have just one theme for these images: typical Morehead. It's just another page in the virtual trip back to my home town that I'm giving myself. Morehead is the biggest town in Carteret County, North Carolina, where there is more water than land. Old Morehead is a peninsula that's about two miles from east to west and not much more than half a mile from north to south.
The view from the north shore of the old town at low tide
Houses on the north shore, one finished and one being built (or re-built)
An artist's rendering of the old town on the wall of a building downtown
Newer and bigger houses across the water from the north side, on former farmland
Oyster shoals, algae, and a black bird on the shore
One the of the old town's eight named streets, Bay Street, ends here, on the edge of a marsh.
Morehead was a 19th century planned development.
We are blessed to have easy access to photos now. They are the next best things to being somewhere we long to be.
