The name of the little town of Aubusson, in the Creuse département, is almost synonymous with tapestries.
The art and industry of tapestry-making was brought to Aubusson from Flanders in the 16th century.
That's what I've read. The industry has gone through lean periods, but it survives.

As I've written before, one of the things we often do when we visit a new town for the first time
is find a pizzeria where we can have a quick lunch. That's what we did in Aubusson in 2009.
By the way, the house on the right above (#3) is said to be the oldest house in Aubusson.
It's called la maison du tapissier, or the Maison Corneille, and it dates back to
the 15th and 16th centuries. Today it's home to the town's tourist office.

When I was looking through photos from Aubusson in preparing these last three posts, I was mystified by this car.
What is it called? What car company made it? Do you know?
I enlarged photo #4, looked carefully with a magnifying glass and couldn’t read the perfectly illegible text on the pedestal.
ReplyDeleteLes Pays de la Loire placés en vigilance orange innondations. Est-ce que cela vous concerne?
If the girl in #6 is raped, it will be her own fault!
DeleteJust above the list of those morts pour la France, I read À la mémoire des enfants d'Aubusson. I don't think rape is ever really the woman's fault...
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting. The first time I enlarged photo #4 difectly on the screen and the text was illegible. Now I clicked on said photo and the text is perfectly clear. I don’t understand. I didn’t know you have to click on the photo before enlarging it. Is that what it is?
DeleteMy Android tablet works that way. If you enlarge the "thumbnail" image that's on the main page, it is blurry. If you click or tap on the thumbnail first, the image enlarges to the size of your display. Then you can enlarge it even more and it doesn't blur.
DeleteAs they say, you learn something new everyday. Thank you for the explanation.
DeleteOf course rape is never the fault of the victim. I thought I read the Royal Calin as the logo of the dog food Royal Canin.
DeleteThat's what I read too.
DeleteAs for the car, you can see the letters AR on the logo. I first thought of Alfa Romeo but they don’t look like this car. Then I thought of Austin Rover. They don’t look like it either. So, I give my tongue to Bertie.
ReplyDeleteNissan Figaro it seems, a Japanese car. Interesting looks and I've never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos, excellent information. I think I can take the next week off from learning one new thing a day. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrew for car information and what BettyAnn said. That t-shirt is from before #metoo. Back in the old days there was a saying "Kentucky where the horses are fast and the women are beautiful" or is it the opposite?
ReplyDeleteOhhhh, Aubusson!
ReplyDeleteLeft hand drive was a clue.
ReplyDeleteIt was a clue. I knew it was a Nissan Figaro — I found it by googling something like "hard-top convertible car single round headlights". I just wondered if anybody else would know. It's right-hand drive though, isn't it? No Nissan Figaro cars with left-hand drive were ever made. That explains why we never saw them in North America or on the European continent.
DeleteGlad someone knew what car it was. I was going to guess Lada...it's in great shape though.
ReplyDeleteI think the t-shirt says "I'm a girl who's easy....to piss off" If I'm translating it properly.
Yor translation is right on.
DeleteCute little pocket-sized car.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping chm's comment was meant in jest, because saying "it's her fault" is part of the talking points of the right-wing approach to denying women autonomy over their own bodies. And yes, I do get cranky about that.
The Nissan Figaro is actually a little bit smaller than my Peugeot 206.
