The ZooParc de Beauval in Saint-Aiignan — now one of the top five zoological parks in the world, they say — began as a parc ornithologique in the late 70s and early '80s. Here's a two-minute slideshow made up of bird pictures I've taken there over the years.

DeleteWe loved visiting the zoo. We lived near the Cincinnati zoo for five years and now we live near the Birmingham zoo and also the Botanical Gardens. Walking in the Botanical Gardens has been a godsend during the pandemic.

On the second photo, the bird on the right seems to be the redthroted parrotfinch. The other one seems to be some kind of mutant of that species.
DeleteThe redthroted parrotfinch is present in New Caledonia a French possession in the South Pacific. That would explain its presence at Beauval.
In the link I posted above there are photos of the green and red bird, the redheaded parrotfinch and the redthroated parrotfinch. They are probably related.
