Glad your arthritis (or whatever your Doctor identified as your problem) is in the past! I had one or two short experiences with sharp pain in my thumb (just one). I bought some ointment but never needed it. I read in NYT about some thumb exercises and I already do wrist circles - trying to avoid further pain! So far, it has worked. I wish the same for you.
