Meanwhile, maybe you remember that last January I bought a new micro PC. It's considerably smaller than the mini PCs I've owned and used in the past, including one mini PC that Walt and I use to stream television shows up in the loft, where we don't have a satellite TV decoder.
At the top of the photo is a mini keyboard. The small devices in the next row down are the mini PC on the left and the micro PC on the right. The device immediately above is a 10-inch Android tablet. The micro PC came with Windows 11 pre-installed. I thought having it and familiarizing myself with the new Windows version would be a smart thing to do. Microsoft's tech support and updates for Windows 10 will be ending in just a few days. Over the past week, I spent some hours every day tinkering with Windows 11 and trying to wrap my arms around it. Well, it didn't work. Yesterday, I finall broke down and gave up. I installed Windows 10 on the micro computer and I won't be using Windows 11 again in the near future.
Now I'll work on setting up the micro PC for blog authoring, photo editing, and other tasks the way do them on my laptop, which is about 12 years old and, knock on wood, which I feel no need to replace at this point. I wonder how things will go in the Windows world over the next months and years. I can't see myself learning and enjoying working on Windows 11 any time soon. Will there be a Windows 12 one day? Will it be better than 11? Will Windows 10 continue to work for me?
I'll keep you posted. The micro PC still seems to have been a good investment. It wasn't expensive. Now with Windows 10 installed on it, I'll be able to compare its performance and the performance of the three other Windows computers I have: a standard-sized desktop PC, my faithful laptop, and my Windows 10 mini computer that we use as a media server when we want to watch television up in the loft.

Oh, darn, Ken, I'm so sorry to hear about the continued pain and swelling in your wrist and hand and arm. I hope the doctor will have some further ideas.
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well with the Microsoft operating system.
Both of these pains are the bane of my existence right now. I can't decide whether to call the doctor's office at 8:05 this morning to beg for an emergency appointment. Or maybe I'll wait until next week unless the pain gets a lot worse. I'll have a better idea about what to do this afternoon when I'll see if the paint is worse or better than this morning.
DeleteI wish our bodies could be fixed like computer problems. You are tech savvy. Hoping you get to see the doctor and your pain is fixable.
ReplyDeleteSo far, one 2mg Ibuprofen tablet gets me through the day. The arm pain is much worse in the morning than in the afternoon and evening. Hope you're doing well, E.
DeleteHopefully the doctors will figure out what's going on. I recently switched to Windows 11 - like you I am not a fan. Everything's rearranged for no reason. Of course there'll be a Windows 12; the constant changing means people will always have to pay Microsoft.
ReplyDeleteI bought the micro computer mostly because it had windows 11 on it and I wanted to start learning about that new browser version. I'm disappointed, because everything I try to do in Windows 11 takes two or three times longer than it took in Windows 10. The Win11 interface is a mess. I hope the people running Win11 development at Microsoft. will come to their senses soon.
