In the two photos above, one taken from the bridge and the other from the other side of the Loire from the château d'Amboise, you can see a big round tower that is called a "cavalry tower" in English. It's called la tour des Minimes in French and was named after a religious order. Below is a close-up photo of a crowd of people who are enjoying views of the Loire and the town from the top of the tower.
Below is a photo of a bronze sculpture of Leonardo da Vinci, who spent the last three years of his life in Amboise as a guest of the king of France called François Ier (premier). The statue is on the opposite bank of the Loire from the château. That's Walt walking over to get a better look at it. Leonardo died at Amboise and his remains are thought by some to be buried under the floor of the little chapel (la Chapelle Saint-Hubert) in the picture below. The chapel is on the château grounds high above the town. Here's a link about it all in French.
That's an interesting poise for the bronze statue. Da Vinci must have been a francophile like us lol.
ReplyDeleteReally cool to get the perspective you got, of the people looking out from the top of the tower :)
