I could have sworn that I recently did a series of blog posts about the town of Senlis, just north of Paris and CDG airport. However, I can't find any evidence of such posts. Senlis is the first place Walt and I went to when we arrived to live in France in June 2003. We had lunch there. I went back with CHM in 2011 and took some photos. More than 10 years ago already...
Wow! These stained-glass windows are magnificent. This time the expression “new and improved” truly applies to them over l’art sulpicien.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the signature on #2. You can recognize C, g and x.
The sulpicien art or style is exemplified in photo #2 in your 07 February 2022 post.
Here is a Wikipedia link in French on Sulpician art and style https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Style_sulpicien
These stained-glass windows can be qualified as “informal”.
N’est-ce pas en 2010 que nous étions à Senlis?
According to the date/time stamp on the photos, we were in Senlis on June 5, 2011. In 2010, we went to Fins, Amiens, Neufchâtel-en-Bray, Rouen, and of course Péronne. In 2011, I posted this itinerary on my blog:
DeleteSenlis
Villers-Cotterêts
Soissons
Coucy-le-Château
Péronne
Laon
Reims
Châlons-en-Champagne
L'Epine
Troyes
Sens
Joigny
Pontigny
Auxerre
Varzy
Pouilly-sur-Loire
Sancerre
Bourges
Vierzon
So, I didn’t have a recollection we went to Péronne two years in a row. Then, Morienval was 2010. And that is the same year you went to Arras, while I stayed in Péronne with the curator.
DeleteNow, I’m wondering, why did we go to Péronne in 2011? The bulk of my donation with the Kango was 2010. Was there anything left? Âge!!! In 2011, I had an appointment with the curator at Varzy, but why go to Péronne first? Maybe your memory is better than mine!
Look at this blog post and the comments.
DeleteThank you for the link.
DeleteI have a very good recollection of that trip, but what we took to Péronne is a complete blank. As I said, I thought my entire donation was 2010/Kango. Once again, âge!
I like the colors
ReplyDelete#4 is outstanding, I think.
ReplyDeleteJust wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI've been! I Googled, and the only other post about Senlis of yours, was in June of 2011. I don't think that you posted these stained-glass windows, though! I think I read (on my one visit to Senlis) that there are contemporary stained-glass windows in the collégiale nearby the cathedral, that were designed by Joan Miró, after the original rose window there, was destroyed by bombing in WWII.
ReplyDeleteIn June 2011, CHM and I were on a week-long road trip. I'm sure a lot of the photos I took on that trip got lost in the shuffle. Some of the ones I'll be posting this week will be some you've seen before.
DeleteIt is always a pleasure to see your photos. Bis repetita placent. They are usually of very good quality.
DeleteYour comments are usually of good quality too.
DeleteThank you so much.
DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link above chm. interesting stuff. And Ken thanks for the wonderful pictures!
ReplyDeleteA good exemple of sulpician stained-glass window is photo number 2, a few days ago, in post 07 February 2022. It might be mass produced for any kind of environmental style. It doesn’t hurt the eyes!
