The painted ceiling beams in the first photo below date back to the French Renaissance (1500s) and are in what is called la chambre du roi at the château de Montpoupon. Many châteaux in the Loire Valley had a "king's bedroom" where he could spend the night if he happened to visit. The painted beams were restored in the 1920s.
I got my second (and final, I hope, but I doubt it) Covid19 vaccination yesterday morning. Yay! I haven't noticed any side-effects so far. My shoulder isn't even very sore. I got the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was the one available here in France starting in early April. The AZ vaccine is not being given to people under 55 years old.
Photo #3, the bedroom with carrés Hermès must have been the Solange de la Motte Saint-Pierre's bedroom? May I suggest readers google image Carrés Hermès; they'll have a surprise.
ReplyDeleteI googled image Carres Hermès but I was not surprised. What did I miss?
DeleteHi BettyAnn, Weren't you surprised how beautiful these silk scarves were?
DeleteGlad you got the second shot Ken! I googled Carres Hermès and was surprised. By the prices. Ha! But yes they are beautiful!
DeleteI was lucky enough to get a couple of those long, long ago, when the exchange rate was much more in U.S. favor; they are luxurious and last forever. Poke around on eBay, lots for sale at lesser prices.
DeleteHi chm, Yes, the scarves are very beautiful. I’ve seen many of them in Paris and other places (alas, not in my closet) so I was not surprised by their beauty but it was lovely to see so many at one time. Merci!
DeleteGlad to know you're completely vaccinated, and not really sore.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm feeling a little wrung out today but I think it's the heat and humidity more than the vaccine causing it. We're supposed to have thunderstorms tonight and rain tomorrow, maybe on Saturday, and again on Sunday.
DeleteWelcome to the fully jabbed club !!
ReplyDeleteI have photographed that ceiling so many times. Montpoupon is a joy to visit. Visits to French châteaux are so reasonably priced compared to in the UK where the cost is about double the charge in France in most places. It makes going back for a second look (and more photos) a happy prospect.
So glad you've gotten that second shot! Lewis and I were tired after ours also. Do you have some red tiles chez vous like the ones here?
ReplyDeleteI lay down on my bed to rest for a few minutes right after lunch. I ended up sleeping for 6 hours! The heat and humidity didn't bother me at all. That's how tired I was.
DeleteA very opulent room. I agree with Jean about admission prices. Adult admission tickets to the Biltmore House in North Carolina start at $76.00 and at Christmas the price is even higher. So happy that you are now fully vaccinated and if we all need to get booster shots at some point that’s fine with me.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo for the 2nd shot for both of you!
