No, we're in North Carolina. That's a different cup of (iced) tea. And before N.C., it was Paris. That's also not at all like the peaceful, bucolic Loire Valley. Below are some photos I took in the now-trendy rue Montorgueil in the center of Paris. I lived there for three years more than 30 years ago.
Rue Montorgueil crowds on a sunny Sunday afternoon in November
The Stohrer pastry bakery was founded in 1730 and is still in business.
Near the intersection with the rue Marie-Stuart
And an afternoon on the terrace of a rue Montorgueil café (rue des Petits-Carreaux, actually)
Looking at the expression on the face of the guy in the middle of the last picture...
ReplyDeletedon't try Les Petits-Carreaux coffee!
LOL Tim. I had noticed that guy too and wondered what had so horrified him.
DeleteThinking about it...
Deleteit is Paris...
he'd probably just been given the bill!
Hope you are having a good trip to the States? I am very much enjoying your Montorgueil photos today as they bring back a super holiday we had there in the winter months of 2005/6. We were in a small apartment at one end in a lovely old building with a wire cage lift, a tiled floor and a concierge who popped out every time we entered or left the building. It was straight out of Simenon's Maigret stories and we loved our whole experience in the area. I have a print of a Claude Monet painting ' Rue Montorgueil Celebration of 30 June 1878' where the tricolor is flying everywhere. Do you know it?
ReplyDeletesuecee, yes, we know it (I'm answering for Ken). We have the same print framed and hanging in our house. -walt,
DeleteHi Walt. Glad you both have the painting, I love it because it is it is full of a feeling of excitement and anticipation. I can feel the wind too - blowing down the street. X sue
DeleteI would so like to be there and wander the streets with a break for food and coffee every so often.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's a little chilly to hang outside, but I guess not, when it's Café time!
ReplyDeleteIt was really warm that day. I think most people, including me, were overdressed for the weather. It was an unusual Nov. 1.
ReplyDeleteKen... it still is unusual... almost Midnight and it is 17 Centipedes outside...
Deletethat is late Summer apero temperature...
it is just a pity it is so "gamp"...
it has been drizzlin' on and off...
well more on than off...
all day!
our rental apt was on that street, above a Nicholas wine shop & across the street from the big cheese store.....perfect
ReplyDeleteSo you were across the street from the restaurant called Au Rocher de Cancal? Did you eat there? Is it any good? I've always been curious about it but never tried it. I used to live just a couple of doors off the rue Montorgueil on the rue Saint-Sauveur. I see you were close to the rue Greneta. As I said, I spent three great years in that neighborhood between 1979 and 1982, in a tiny sixth floor walk-up apartment.
DeleteWeather was beautiful today here in eastern NC. Hope it was nice where you are.
yes we were......did not eat at Cancal but it was always packed!! we ate at cafe down the street (toward the Sentier end) and I cant remember name offhand, but we ended up going back 3 times in a week cause it was reasonable price-wise & food was good....also tried an Indian place on nearby side street, not great.....rental apt was very reasobnable and had 2 bedrooms with large beds......perfect place!!
DeleteOnce upon a time Lewis and I had a fine dinner at Le Petit Carreaux.
ReplyDeleteI've never eaten there. I don't know if it was a restaurant back when I lived there or what it was called then.
DeleteIt looks live everyone was out enjoying the sunshine!
ReplyDeleteKen, I grew up in Charlotte NC :)
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean I can go live in France now ???? please say yes !
Happy memories about that street...
