Rain rain go away

I suppose plants like the ones above, which seem to be two different kinds of cyclamens, need weather like what you see below. Right now, it rains nearly every day — not hard rain, but never-ending rain, or fog, or mist, or drizzle. Today's forecast is for more of the same. As they used to say in Rouen (Normandy) when I spent a year there: Ici il ne pleut pas beaucoup... mais il pleut souvent.

  1. I love this photo- it makes me miss the green grass that Kentucky winters had. Our Alabama skies have been making layers like the one in the photo. Maybe winter feels more intense as we age...

    1. Northern California had green grass in wintertime like that. The grass turned brown in summer. In San Francisco we had a lot more mist and fog in summer than in winter.

  2. That is a good observation, Evelyn, and I bet that's true. I know, too, that I just also pay more attention to things like the seasons, the rain, and even the blooming of plants, than I did when I was a teenager.
Ken, I remember that the year that I lived in Paris, it rained (souvent, mais pas beaucoup :)) every single day in October, that year. It made me think that this must happen every year in Paris.

    1. I remember being sick all through the winter that year. Sinusitis. It was miserable. Sniffing and coughing. I think some winters are wetter than others in Paris, but they're all damp. Rouen was worse. I think Evelyn is right about winters seeming more intense as we get older. The house seems colder this year, but that's partly because we're not having fires in the wood stove. We can't because we're both suffering health-wise, Walt has terrible neuralgia and I have too much arthritis.

  3. When I went to college in upstate New York, it misted like that constantly, and after a while it definitely gets to you. But in the plus column Ken, you're getting misted on in France. I wish I could say that! ;-)

    1. I am happy to be here, but it's kind of lonely out here in the vineyards right now.

  5. I'd be happy with rain at this point. I've been frozen in here in NC for 2 solid weeks nw. We hadn't had any snow the last 2 years so I guess this is payback, but I've had enough.

  6. Ken, you are right about the cyclamen.... the angular ones are Autumn flowering and are native/long-established ones [not sure which] and are very hardy... the rounded leaved ones are the Spring flowering once [often forced for Christmas presents] and are not so hardy.... I like both, but prefer the Autumn ones because they are so photogenic.... their fractal leaves are present all year round!! And their leaves are like snow flakes.... no two are identical!!
