Flooding here in Saint-Aignan...

...has been minor compared to flooding along France's west coast (along the Atlantic ocean, more than 150 miles from here). The photo above shows the river road we take from our little settlement down a steep hill to get to Saint-Aignan to the southeast and Montrichard to the northwest (where some roads have flooded). As you can see, the road along the river here is built on a levee to prevent frequent flooding. Houses are built on even higher ground south of the Cher river valley. Trees are planted on land that is at river level and that is prone to flooding nearly every winter or spring.

  1. Thanks for telling us about the flooding. I haven't seen anything on our news here.

    1. The Toulouse area has been hit hard, as has the big town of Saintes in Charente Maritime. Also the area around Angers and Nantes, near the mouth of the Loire. Also Brittany. Near us, the Cher overflowed its banks in Montrichard, just 10 miles from us.

  2. The only news about flooding that I’ve seen was on a fb page about Paris. Apparently all the Seine River cruises have been halted.
