La Renaudière : couleurs locales

Yesterday's snow shower was over by about 10 a.m. It turned into rain and the rain lasted until mid-afternoon. By the time I went out for a walk with the dog, it had ended. Today marks two months that I've been suffering with this chest cold/bronchitis. It's not as bad as it way back in January and February, but the symptoms — congestion, itchy eyes, coughing, sneezing — just won't go away. Still, I need to go out and walk with Tasha the Sheltie every day. Walks are longer or shorter depending on the weather.

I spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking these days. Yesterday I made something that I had never even heard of a few months ago. It's called une morbiflette. Have you ever heard of it? More to come... A few days ago I made chicken noodle soup. Before that, North African couscous with lots of vegetables, as well as Asian-style stir-fries with either rice or noodles. And baked beans with bacon. Today's lunch will be lasagna with spinach, ricotta, and mozzarella. There's a theme in here somewhere.

  1. The morbiflette sounds wonderful, I did a gratin the other day with an English Seaside Cheddar.

    1. We can get cheddar in our local supermarkets. The closest French equivalent is Cantal cheese, which comes in mild (jeune), medium (entre-deux) and sharp (vieux) varieties, depending on how long it has been aged.

  2. I'm interested in learning about morbiflette. I hoping that you will soon have some sunny days to kick that cold out of your system.

  4. Gosh, sorry to hear that you're still struggling with that illness! How is Walt doing... is he pretty much recovered?
I'm off to look up what Morbiflette is :)

    1. Walt is doing better than I am, but he's still not completely over the cold.

  5. Beautiful blooms on your trees. I'd never heard of morbiflette but now I know. Maybe you have allergies Ken?

    1. I do have allergies, and that may be part of the problem. I don't usually cough when I'm having an allergy attack, but I do sneeze.

  6. Ken, you have my sympathy. I have been battling a cough that started with a cold many weeks ago. I think my husband has heard enough of my constant coughing. I thought perhaps long walks in fresh air might help me. However, I live in an area built on the side of a mountain. It’s beautiful here but I have to drive to a walkable area. I envy your situation in the French countryside where you can just walk out the back garden. Looking forward to the upcoming food blogs as always.
