La Salamandre : le décor

Here are a few more shots of the decor at the Salamandre restaurant in Azay-le-Rideau. It was slightly unnerving to be eating lunch in the midst of such untamed company.

As we enjoyed our salads and pizzas, an older couple came into the restaurant and were seated near us. They must have been in their late 70s or early 80s. I overheard the woman tell her lunch companion: « Je venais jouer ici quand j'étais gamine. » — "I used to come play here when I was a little girl." I'm not sure what she meant, because I just read that the restaurant was founded in 1993.

  1. Maybe the restaurant was a private home in the past, and the old lady used to play with the owner's children?
Not sure I'd want to eat with all those stuffed animals around ! The wall paintings I could tolerate, but not the poor animals.

    1. Maybe it was a private home. I wish I could have asked the woman to explain her memory.

  2. I'd be sorely tempted to remove the two heads from their plinths.... attach them directly to the wall, then paint the body in behind them!

  3. I cannot tell you how much I hate those things, dead animals stuffed and mounted on walls etc.
I have never been one to enjoy dead things as decoration.

    1. I understand, but it exists. Every culture has its own things when it ]comes to animals, food, and death.
