Couleur locale (à Paris)

One of the treats for the eye along the streets of Paris is all the colorful displays at produce markets  you see in every neighborhood in the city. (Another color accent is all the red café and restaurant awnings.) Here are a few produce markets I noticed on Monday in Paris as I walked around town.

The shop above is on the Rue des Martyrs, what is called a rue commerçante that runs from behind the Notre-Dame de Lorette church toward the north up the slope of the Butte Montmartre.

Above is another shop on the other side of the city, near the Place Monge not too far from the Panthéon. There is a big outdoor market on the Place Monge (5th arrondissement) two or three times a week.

And finally, here's another produce shop on the rue des Martyrs. You see shops and displays like these all over the city.

I'm in North Carolina, where the weather is beautiful. Temperatures will be approaching 68ºF (20ºC) over the next few days and through the weekend. Not much to report otherwise. I'm recovering from jet lag. Today is my mother's birthday.

  3. Hi Mary Allen. Happy birthday to you and many happy returns of the day. Glad to know the surgery was successfull and wish you a fast and complete recovery. You're lucky to have Ken with you on your birthday and be able to enjoy his visit. My friend who's turning 91 today has Alzheimer and her daughter tells me it is getting worse. I won't be able to wish her a happy birthday since I don't think she would understand.

  4. The colorful markets with their artistic displays of fruits and vegetables, was one of the first things I noticed when we moved to Buenos Aires. They look just the same as these in Paris. How lovely ..
I would like to have one of those oranges this morning please : )

    1. Happy birthday, Cousine, and many, many happy returns of the day. Last snow is gone here, fortunately. They're predicting more for next week! What can we do?

  8. Please pass along my birthday greetings to your Mother from me, Ken! I'm hoping her wrist surgery and recovery are merely memories, now, like mine is. Glad you are experiencing that 68 degrees. We've had continuous rain here in the Northwest and mid 4o's. After viewing the photos in Paris, I went upstairs and got me a mandarin orange which I'm just now finishing up!.

  11. MA has asked me to thank you all for the birthday greetings and wishes. She got a lot of birthday cards from her neighbors and from friends and relatives all over the area. She actually went and played bingo yesterday, so she is doing well after her surgery last Friday. We had a mini family reunion for a couple of hours yesterday evening and that was a lot of fun.
