Sorry to say that the gate looks like ours and wants some TLC. We have held off repainting ours as we want to have a sliding one for the car in and out. We are still waiting for a quote on it's replacement. Lesley
We've been putting off replacing that gate for 10 years now. It's low priority. Nobody sees it but us, and it keeps Callie in and the deer and hares out (so they can't snack in the vegetable garden). We've had preliminary estimates for gate replacement drawn up, but we haven't ordered one yet.
Deer...I didn't realize you had to contend with them. Or hares. In rural CT where my sister lives, deer will eat all the annual flowers you plant in one go, though bulbs like daffodils or crocus they won't touch.

We have a big population of little deer called chevreuils or roe deer in this area. Hares, foxes, and badgers too. Our whole yard is fenced in, to keep the dog in and the hares out. A friend of ours who lives in Auburn CA, in the Sierra foothills below Tahoe, has had to give up gardening completely because deer just eat everything she plants.
The photo is wonderful and a coat of paint would make the gate look better and you can leave off replacing it for longer :) I am all for putting things off it possible ..

The wood is just too rotten to take a coat of paint. Inevitably, we will have to replace the whole thing. Maybe in 2016.
