We got back home last night after spending four nights in the village called Bouzy, in Champagne. It's about 10 miles northeast of Epernay, and the grapes grown around Bouzy are of the Pinot Noir variety. The sparkling wine made in Bouzy is champagne, of course, but more specifically Blanc de Noirs — white bubbly wine made from red (in French, "black") grapes.
L'enseigne du notaire — you see these signs in all French towns.More about all that in coming posts. It's nice to be back in Touraine, but Champagne was fun and interesting too. We rented a house in the middle of the village, population about 1000. That was a change for us, after living for more than eight years out in the country. The house we stayed in up in the Perche was also out in the country — it was more isolated and remote than our house in Saint-Aignan.
Glad you're back safe and sound [I hope]. Can't wait to have all the details. Leaving for S.C. this Tuesday morning. Can't wait to be there!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing about your trip!

CHM, for a brief moment I thought you were going to SOUTH CAROLINA and was trying to figure out why LOL.

We are back safe and sound. I turned in the rental car at Saint-Pierre-des-Corps this afternoon. We had a good time in Champagne and I'll post some pictures starting tomorrow. CHM, have a good trip to SoCal and enjoy the "winter" weather there.
ReplyDeleteHow many cases of champagne did you bring back?
ReplyDeleteDid you get to see any tunnels that were used to store the champagne?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see pictures of the area!
