- 1 liter of diesel fuel costs 2.19 euros
- 1 U.S gallon = 3.8 liters
- 2.19 per liter x 3.8 liters = 8.32 euros
- 8.32 euros = 9.73 US dollars at today's exchange rate (1 euro = 1.17 USD)
Walt went to the SuperU filling station early yesterday morning to get 10 liters of gasoline for our lawn mower. He said he was the only person buying fuel there at that hour.
We won't be making trips to places farther than 5 miles from our house for the foreseeable future.
Approximately the same for P95 (premium unleaded) petrol in Australia right now. (1.81x3.8/0.73 = USD 9.42) IT would be more but the government cut fuel excise tax by 50% for 3 months (expires end of June) that would take it up to about 9.57 or so
ReplyDeleteLuckily we're inner city and I work from home so don't need to drive often, but I was planning a road trip vacation later this year. Gustav was going to fly back to Sweden to visit folks for Xmas but the airfares have already doubled - assuming that they will still be valid tickets by the end of the year with so many routes being cut.
Much more pain will be felt when supply chain costs start hitting for goods not in local inventory - manufacture of any goods relying on petrochemical products (hello plastics and electronics) and the cost of shipping them anywhere.
Ken that is so high! I guess I can't complain about our prices in comparison. How much has it gone up? Regarding Mike's comment above, we've given up on flights until this sorts out for the same reasons. No travel this summer - well, we usually go in autumn, but flights are being cut here too, and fares have jumped.
ReplyDeletePrices have doubled in just a few months.
DeleteTake the trains?
ReplyDeleteFrom where we live, we usually drive to the train station.
DeleteI have a ff ticket for June that I achieved many months ago, so I'm hoping to use it for a trip to Paris in June to celebrate being in a new decade. I feel guilty for being an American right now, but am working for change.
ReplyDeleteThat's great, E. I hope you can do it.
DeleteOy. We're very lucky to live where we can walk (me) or ride a bike (Tony) to get most of what we need. -- Chrissoup
ReplyDeleteYou are in a good situation, Chrissoup, that's for sure.
