If they are-- and you should verify this with a local savant champignon!--they are very tasty especially if picked fairly young. They tend to come back every year.

the others look like a species of inky caps (Coprinus) but its hard to tell--probably not edible or tasty if so.Ingramhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13792024820770283714noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-45174784444625067062009-11-04T20:18:59.389+01:002009-11-04T20:18:59.389+01:00I think the market is the best place to get mushro...I think the market is the best place to get mushrooms.Starmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12386841450183061541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-24327342127450264462009-11-04T04:07:49.209+01:002009-11-04T04:07:49.209+01:00Well, I second both John and Jean's sentiments...Well, I second both John and Jean's sentiments :) Glad to know you're not going to be tempted, Ken :)

JudySeine Judeet (Judith)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07407353544376132484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-31987611205013620622009-11-03T21:05:09.548+01:002009-11-03T21:05:09.548+01:00Jean, I agree that it's not worth the risk. The ones in my book that look like the ones out in the garden are described as "à rejeter" -- to be rejected -- anyway.

I've never tried taking mushrooms to the pharmacy. But even a pharmacists' word for it would leave me doubtful.

Once a lot of white mushrooms came up under our one pear tree. A local woman said they were good. Walt ran the lawnmower over them the next day, because we didn't want to risk eating them. The woman came back and literally had tears in her eyes when she saw those mushrooms had been mowed down.Ken Broadhursthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04430899802705818716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-15427365569607552992009-11-03T20:42:27.072+01:002009-11-03T20:42:27.072+01:00One thing we learned when we went to the mushroom ...One thing we learned when we went to the mushroom museum near Saumur is that the deadly poisonous ones look exactly like the perfectly edible ones.

Just not worth the risk, however tempting, in my opinion.

The mushroom museum was fascinating, BTW.Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726164724131916224noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-12861430640770105362009-11-03T17:05:31.577+01:002009-11-03T17:05:31.577+01:00I suggest that you have the pharmacist, neighbor, ...I suggest that you have the pharmacist, neighbor, whoever, eat a few first; then see how they're doing the following day :-)Johnnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-12993985383518691302009-11-03T16:36:39.007+01:002009-11-03T16:36:39.007+01:00The mushrooms on the linden tree sure look like wh...The mushrooms on the linden tree sure look like what we call straw mushrooms, the ones used in Chinese cooking.
