It says a man named Rigald de Tournemire brought back the thorn from the Crusades in 1101. Wonder if you are allowed to see it?

I've read about the whole Auvergne book now, skipping around the chapters. And I really want to go to the area just east of Salers and Saint-Flour, called Velay, and its big town, Le Puy-en-Velay. Maybe next year.

NickL, what were you doing in the tattoo shop?

Judy, I don't know when I learned the difference between a village and a hamlet. Not that long ago, probably. But the usages are really variable. We live in a hamlet outside a village. But some people call our hamlet the village, and use the term "bourg" to describe the built-up area around the church. Officially, though, a village has a church and usually has some businesses. Hamlets don't have a church and most don't have any businesses.Ken Broadhursthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04430899802705818716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-87332839053204735542009-10-08T05:00:07.022+02:002009-10-08T05:00:07.022+02:00Tournemire was a neat little village. Actually that may be Mary's bleeding heart...

I didn't know about the thorn relic being there. I find it interesting that the knights who went to the holy land were able to find so much loot.Evelynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-51363963177006829822009-10-07T22:47:29.505+02:002009-10-07T22:47:29.505+02:00(Very funny, Walt :))

I didn't know that there was an actual specific difference. Have you known this for a long time? I vaguely recall your mentioning something about the term hameau before, and maybe wondering when it was used instead of village.

Great stained glass photos!

JudySeine Judeet (Judith)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07407353544376132484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-85021889742494464542009-10-07T20:15:32.892+02:002009-10-07T20:15:32.892+02:00Can't help thinking I've seen the heart wi...Can't help thinking I've seen the heart with a dagger and roses design in our local tattoo shop....
NickNickLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10597310462094749435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-25118927389443867232009-10-07T19:43:13.247+02:002009-10-07T19:43:13.247+02:00These little tours are what makes Europe such a gr...These little tours are what makes Europe such a great place to live.Starmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12386841450183061541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-82516144061871036532009-10-07T15:40:54.143+02:002009-10-07T15:40:54.143+02:00i really love that stone they use in auvergne........i really love that stone they use in auvergne.....i guess it serves as good insulation too....

lol waltmelindanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-59951839525981423982009-10-07T14:29:51.998+02:002009-10-07T14:29:51.998+02:00(I always wonder when I see a "blond" Je...(I always wonder when I see a "blond" Jesus).
