When we went to vote here in Virginia this morning at about seven we encountered a line--not a long one, but the first we've ever experienced there. I don't know how those people voted, of course, but it looked to me like there were a lot of Obama supporters. I'm hopeful Virginia will come through for us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-44548141880471096712008-11-04T23:00:00.000+01:002008-11-04T23:00:00.000+01:00I just voted! I'm so excited! They mentioned on NPR this afternoon that around the world, people are staying up all through the night... and I pictured Ken! :)) (Ken, by the way, were you and Walt able to vote by absentee ballot, or no, because you're not living in the U.S.??? How does that work??)
JudySeine Judeet (Judith)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07407353544376132484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-46165698140461866822008-11-04T22:40:00.000+01:002008-11-04T22:40:00.000+01:00Tony has informed me that he is eating dinner in f...Tony has informed me that he is eating dinner in front of the TV, and that he won't be chatting much tonight. I know Walt follows that site but I haven't. N.C. is such a different state now compared to 25 years ago -- or 40 years ago when I lived there. The population has gone from 4 to 9 million or something crazy like that. I hope they bounce Liddy Dole out of that Senate seat and of course that Obama takes the presidential contest.Ken Broadhursthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04430899802705818716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-78131717916418919372008-11-04T21:04:00.000+01:002008-11-04T21:04:00.000+01:00Maybe this assessment today from my favorite polit...Maybe this assessment today from my favorite politics website, FiveThirtyEight.com, will make you feel better, Ken:

"Today's Polls and Final Election" Projection: Obama 349, McCain 189
It's Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, Election Day in America. The last polls have straggled in, and show little sign of mercy for John McCain. Barack Obama appears poised for a decisive electoral victory.

Our model projects that Obama will win all states won by John Kerry in 2004, in addition to Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, Nevada, Florida and North Carolina, while narrowly losing Missouri and Indiana. These states total 353 electoral votes. Our official projection, which looks at these outcomes probabilistically -- for instance, assigns North Carolina's 15 electoral votes to Obama 59 percent of the time -- comes up with an incrementally more conservative projection of 348.6 electoral votes.

We also project Obama to win the popular vote by 6.1 points; his lead is slightly larger than that in the polls now, but our model accounts for the fact that candidates with large leads in the polls typically underperform their numbers by a small margin on Election Day.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-39272014369214843392008-11-04T18:18:00.000+01:002008-11-04T18:18:00.000+01:00We always vote absentee, but this time I took my b...We always vote absentee, but this time I took my ballot to our polling place on my way into work just to be part of the crowd (and knowing all I had to do was drop my ballot off). That means I will be surfing between news sites all day.

I have no hope for my preferred choice for president and have begun to focus on local and state races. KY won't tell much of a story though. Our first best hope (of a landslide for Obama- remember I'm an optimist) will be the state of Virginia. If VA turns blue, we can give a big sigh of relief.

I just got back from voting at my nearby school. No lines whatsoever. If I were a conservative, I'd have a hard time voting the ticket this year. Maybe those folks will stay home;-)

This election is so exciting. The suspense is getting to me as well. Hang tight, Obama years will soon be in our sight.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18071407.post-34138775346733021982008-11-04T14:57:00.000+01:002008-11-04T14:57:00.000+01:00I am really anxious to know how my state, North Ca...I am really anxious to know how my state, North Carolina, votes.
