Bedtime

I'll just post a photo of the king's bedroom at Chambord, because I wish I could be in bed asleep right now. Tasha the Shetland puppy won't have it, though. She wants her breakfast at 5:00 a.m. and barks until she gets it. I'm sure Louis XIV would have had staff to deal with such details when he was sleeping at Chambord in the 17th century.

Also, it's pretty hot this morning. Our low temperature is higher than our high temperatures were just a few days ago. This mini-heatwave is supposed to last through Sunday.

Today I have to decide how to get the Peugeot over to Dominique's garage. I think I'm going to have it towed rather than try to drive it. What if it broke down completely on the narrow Saint-Aignan bridge? It would hold up traffic for a while. Towing is smarter and safer. And it's included under my car insurance.

  1. We're still in July, and this is summer. Cold temperatures are unusual at this time of year.

    1. I will remind you that it was cold just 3 or 4 days ago. Everything is relative. On July 2 we had a low temperature of 12.5ºC (54.5ºF). Today, the morning low was 22.9ºC (73.2ºF). The high temperature on July 1 was 17.9ºC (64.2ºF). Knowing you as I do, I know that you would call that frigid!

  2. The best of luck to you both with the car as you get it sorted out over the next couple of weeks. I am up early because we are travelling back to Caen and then to the UK today. At least our Peugeot has air con. It is going to be a bit crowded in the car with our daughter as well and we have so much stuff to carry with us, I shall be in the back seat packed in among the luggage.
Already looking forward to coming back in September!

    1. I remember in 2003 we got our Peugeot with AC in it. We went for long drives on the hottest days during the Great Heat Wave back then just to enjoy the air-conditioning. We might have to do the same this afternoon. Bon voyage.

    2. We had our daughter's mother-in-law visiting us during the heat wave a couple of weeks ago. We went to Giverny, a little over an hour from home, and then drove along the Seine for a 3-hour air-conditioned ride back. A couple of days later, we visited Chantilly and took a leisurely route home, again, to stay in the air conditioning.

    3. Sounds like a good time, you did it all just right. We didn't get any rain today despite predictions and it is breezy so not too hot so far.

  3. Ha! Yes, I do believe that Louis XIV would have been sleeping in ;)
    Great photos again!
Sorry to hear that more high heat is starting. I read that today.
    Courage with the car!

  4. I just called my insurance company's emergency line and arranged for the Peugeot to be transported to the mechanic's garage tomorrow morning. Dominique will have it inspected and write me up a bid for the work that needs to be done. Maybe it will be repaired early next week.

  5. Regarding barking puppies .. would you be able to leave a small bowl of kibble out for her , so she can go have a snack , letting you sleep ? Then at a decent hour, you can give her a "real" breakfast .. I did that with our Standard Poodle who didn't bark but stared at my husband , willing his eyes to open and if they did not, he got pounced on and licked.
There is nothing like puppy silliness.

    1. I don't see how that would work. If we put the kibble down at bedtime, it would all be eaten long before morning. Tasha would still be barking at 5 to be fed. We just hope she will grow out of this bad habit... someday.

  6. Oh dear, Tasha, that won't do. I hope you can break her of this expectation. And good luck with the car sale!

  7. We've decided to have the Peugeot's clutch replaced and keep the car for a while longer.

  8. I'm glad towing is covered by your insurance. I'm glad you've decided to keep two cars.

    1. I guess I'm just really attached to the Peugeot. Maybe because it was our original car in France. I like the way it drives when it is running well. I don't know if it makes economic sense to keep it, but as Walt says we don't really need to start looking for another car to buy right now. We've got our hands full with the house, garden, and puppy.
