Apple blossoms

It will be very interesting to see if we get a huge or a tiny crop of apples this year. As with grapes, some apple varieties put out blossoms earlier than others. The early-bloomers are the ones that would have suffered frostbite.

Right now I have the impression that our three big apple trees have been affected by the April 2017 freeze that also damaged a lot of grapevines. So I'm predicting a small apple crop. We'll see. The little tree out by the back gate, which is full of big balls of mistletoe, is just flowering now.

This morning I'm going to do a final tilling of our vegetable garden plot, which is partially visible in the photo above. I've been walking around out there over the past two or three days, and the ground is obviously soft. Some grass and other unwanted plants are growing in it, but not in a big way, so tilling it will probably be pretty easy.

Five years ago today, Walt and I got married in Albany NY. However, on June 1, we will celebrate 34 years of life as a couple, including 17+ years in California and now 14 years in Saint-Aignan. I'm 68 now, so 34 years is half of my life. Pretty amazing, no?

  1. Five years already? It seems like yesterday. Time flies, no?

    1. Yes, it does. Five years already. And that after a long engagement! At the same time, you and I have known each other, worked together, and been friends for nearly 35 years.

    2. The older you get, the faster time flies. I know that. But, still, five years, i can't believe it! And thirty five years we've known each other and be friends, it seems like an eternity!

  7. Happy Anniversary, Ken and Walt (one of many anniversaries I hope you celebrate)! So happy you found each other.

I love apple blossoms! I think they are the best fruit tree flower offerings because they come out when the green leaves are already out, so you get this lovely mix of pinks, whites, and greens. Other fruit trees often blossom before the leaves are out and it looks dramatic but not as attractive to me. Lovely shots--thanks for sharing.

  8. Quite similar to 'our' dates/numbers: started life as a couple in March 1985, got married in June 2005. :)) So we're 2 years behind you as far as couple years go. :) We'll have one on you on 1 June!
