Un soixante-huitard de plus

That's not really the meaning of soixante-huitard, but it applies in this case. I am a soixante-huitard, broadly speaking, carrying within me the spirit of France's May 1968 events. And I am also 68 years old. Today.

I'll be going out for a walk in the vineyard with Callie the collie in a few minutes. And then between 9 and noon I'll be cooking my birthday dinner: a spit-roasted capon with sausage/mushroom stuffing, some baked sweet potatoes, and some Tuscan (dinosaur) kale from our 2016 vegetable garden. Bon anniversaire, et bon appétit !

  2. Happy Birthday! You are four years younger than I am. It amuses me that as one becomes older that child spirit of rejoicing in that fact comes back so strongly. For me, at least.I wish you Happy Birthday and a very delicious birthday dinner!

Ah, yes. We are on the downhill slope, but life is so good, despite everything.

  5. Happy Birthday, Ken. Sixty Eight is a good age to be. I reached it last October and, so far, it is proving to be a good year for me. I send my hopes and wishes that it will be a good vintage for you too.

  7. Many happy returns to you for your birthday. Ah yes, the student riots in Paris. At the same time students in Bangkok were rioting against the state, both significant events of the countries respective histories. Have I mentioned it before? You are the same age as my partner, less a couple of weeks. He is feeling very old today, but we did do quite a lot.

  16. Sound like a good plan for a birthday day. Your picture, today, is sunny! Is that really today? We've had bursts of blue, but mostly rain and a bit of hail.

  21. Happy Birthday Ken!

I have little of the soixante-huitard in me, or more correctly, on me. During my first extended stay in Paris, I had one of the '68 slogans "Fais que ton rêve soit plus long que la nuit" tattooed on my arm.
