Webs

Yesterday was a scramble to get a plane ticket, a train ticket, and a hotel room in Paris. It's done, though. So my departure date is set. I'll be flying from Paris to Atlanta on Air France and then from Atlanta to New Bern in North Carolina. I'm looking forward to being there again.

I'll be spending one night at the Hôtel des Carmes in Paris. It's in the Latin Quarter, and it has an elevator! It's in the same neighborhood where I first spent time in Paris 46 years ago, and I've stayed at the Carmes several times over the years. I always enjoy being in Paris, and I'm hoping for decent weather.

The photos here have nothing to do with my trip. I just decided to post them today. But it's true that getting out of Saint-Aignan and over to the States is a little like trying to get out of a spider's web. It's a struggle.

  1. I love your dewy, webby pictures....while you can take pictures like this in the cities, you just don't get nice backgrounds!

    1. Thanks, Tim. I hope the weather will be nice enough the afternoon and morning that I plan to spend in Paris for me to take some photos. I'm thinking Montmartre might be interesting if it's not raining.

  2. You sound re-energised today. We are fed-up with an endless warm but soggy boggy winter here in Southern England and are planning our spring and summer trips to keep ourselves cheerful. Is the weather likely to be much warmer in Southern Carolina?

    1. The weather on the North Carolina coast might be slightly warmer than in Saint-Aignan toward the end of February, but we're having such a mild winter that it might not be so different this year. High temperatures will probably hover around the 15ºC mark, with some a little colder and some as warm as 20. There will probably be enough nice weather for some long walks on the beach.

  4. Oh, Montmartre sounds good and those beaches will be nice. I hope the flights are good ones- going through Atlanta takes more time I think.

    1. Going thru Atlanta does take longer, but only if there is a direct flight from Paris to Charlotte. There isn't one right now. It's the extra layover, usually at Philadelphia, that is really exhausting -- three planes and four airports in one day is a killer. Still, I have a 4-hour layover at ATL. Ugh.

  6. Hey Ken, if you're staying in the 18th I have a good restaurant suggestion for you...La Mandigotte, 68 rue Lepic.....very reasonable (wine too) and small with good food......my daughter & husband lived in Montmartre for a couple yrs & went often & when we visited, we ate there 2-3 times.....always good....look at the menu from their website

  7. Ken, the weather is pretty miserable here today. We are under a winter storm advisory. It's raining and blowing a gale. Check out the National Weather Service for Morehead City. It was so warm a couple of days last week I turned the A/C on for a while. Then another day and evening the rain was coming down by the buckets full. I have never seen my back yard so wet. By the time you get here maybe it will back in the 70's. Hard to believe it's February and I've been wearing shorts and a T-shirt to go to the mailbox…not today though! Safe travels!

It's Super Bowl Sunday! I'm not a big pro football fan, but it is exciting that the Carolina Panthers are in it this year. I hope they win!

    1. I can't remember the last time I stayed at the Carmes. I do remember being there in 2007 when my sister came to visit. After that, I don't know. Walt says he stayed there in 2009, but I didn't go to Paris with him that year.

    1. Thanks, Melinda, yes, I'm staying in the Latin Quarter (near an RER station for the trip out to Roissy), but I'm thinking of going and spending the afternoon and maybe the evening up at Montmartre, if the weather gods cooperate. I might get a chance to try that restaurant.

  11. Don't know when you are travelling but you could be right in the middle of Super Tuesdays season. After next Tuesday in NH , the real fun starts. It will be interesting to watch or experience if you happen to be in the US for the South Carolina Primary
