Blogger blip

Sunday. Rain. Slept late. Blogger won't let me upload pictures.

Feed a cold, starve a fever. Isn't that the saying? I've been feeding my cold, and it's nearly gone now. I was going to post a recipe for the Chipotle Meatballs we had for lunch yesterday. That will have to wait.

Here's a picture I had already uploade
but hadn't posted...

Maybe Blogger will be fully functional later today, or tomorrow morning.

Bon dimanche...

  1. Hello Ken! I pretty much just wanted to say hello -- I have been dipping into blogging a bit more late, perhaps with the onset of fall weather.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  2. Hi Betty, nice to hear from you. Are you getting all that rain as far up as Rodez? It's just gray and bruine-y here in the Loire Valley. Not cold at all. Ken

  4. I have been so busy at work, I didn't turn on my computer few days agao and only read now your problem with your cold and your computer virus. I have bought AVG for few years now and it has been working very well. I have so many friends who have been hacked. What a pain it can be! Hope all is well by now.

Sometimes we just need to feel "crappy" so that when we are well, we will really appreciate it! I think I have said that before. Oh, well.

  6. Hi Ken,
Glad you're starting to feel better. Colds are rotten things.
The saying actually is meant to mean that if you feed a cold, you are likely to get a fever - consequential kind of thing. Happy it wasn't so in your case.

  7. Hi Sue,

I've never understood the expression that way. Feed a cold meant eat to fortify yourself when you have a cold, but don't eat so much when you have a fever. In past centuries, fasting was considered to be a good way to fight off a fever. And look at this:

The maxim "feed a cold, starve a fever" may be right after all, researchers have discovered.

Until now, most doctors and nutritionists have rejected the idea as a myth. But Dutch scientists have found that eating a meal boosts the type of immune response that destroys the viruses responsible for colds, while fasting stimulates the response that tackles the bacterial infections responsible for most fevers.

"To our knowledge, this is the first time that such a direct effect has been demonstrated," says Gijs van den Brink of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. At a Christmas dinner, he and his colleagues decided to take blood samples to see if alcohol affected the immune system.
